Oil filter cartridges - modern constructions
For modern I.C. engines ECO oil filter cartridges are often applied instead of spin-on filters. One of the reasons is that they do not contain any metal elements. These cartridges, similar to the traditionall ones, are installed in dismountable casings, which are an integral part of the engine. The replacement of an used filter cartridge requires more experience than the replacement of a spin-on filter. There is a greater potential risk of leaving the gathered contaminats in the housing or getting them into the oil system during improper proceedings. However, the advantages of using ECO cartridges being mainly the easy utilization, encourage the engine constructors to use them more often.

The application of modern materials and construction optimization considering the load analysis of particular elements allowed the elimination of the need for metal parts. They were replaced by elements made out of modern plastic. As a result, the filter cartridge mass have been reduced by even 90%, which is not to be neglected as far as utilization is concerned. Elimination of metal parts allows easy utilisation in incinerator plants, without time consuming and expensive dismounting and segregation so characteristic for spin-on filters and traditional cartridges. The advantages of this solution encouraged filter manufacturers to implement ECO cartridges also for older types of engines, where traditional cartridges with metal bottoms were originally applied.
