Oil filter cartridges
In older types of engines, in particular for truck there used to be dismountable housings with replaceable filtering cartridge. Modern, presently manufactured engines, both for trucks and cars may also have this solution applied. The idea of stationary, dismountable housings and replaceable filtering cartridge is quite advantageous. Utilization of used filtering cartridges (especially made without metal elements) is less harmful to the environment, than utilization of spin-on filters. Oil filter housings are installed in presently manufactured engines and those from a few years back are totally different considering its construction and material. However the basic functions are still the same. The housings have usually all valves required for proper filter performance in the engine oil system and elements which position the filter medium and guarantee its sealing in the housing.
