Rotation - new way of manufacturing of charcoal cabin air filters
Cabin air filters are presently a key element in the construction of ventilation systems in cars. Nowadays, it is hard to find a car which has not been provided with such a filter by the manufacturer.
This is due to the fact that the car is exposed to exhaust gases, soot, dust and similar volatile particles that are omnipresent over every street in the city. Concentration of impurities in the air inside the vehicle frequently exceeds the concentration of impurities outside the car. For that very reason modern cars are equipped by the manufacturer with the air cabin filters. We can check their effectiveness at the filter replacement. It is enough to inspect it closely to see what the surface of the used up filter looks like. The awareness of the fact that most of the accumulated thereon impurities could end up in our lungs is definitely the most convincing argument for the application of this type of filters in our cars.
The extensive product offering of WIX-FILTRON includes 295 types of cabin filters (anti-dust filters). 202 of them are traditional filters. They stop dust, particles, bacteria and solid particles of fumes. For the most demanding customers, we have prepared 95 filter types with active charcoal (figure), whose efficiency is definitely higher than in case of traditional filters. The specific surface area of one gram of active charcoal may be up to 900 m2, thus, the amount of gas impurities stopped in the filter is impressive. The layer of active charcoal, placed between the two layers of synthetic fibres, absorbs odours, chemical compounds included in the exhaust gases as well as gases that are harmful for man: ozone, carbon dioxide and nitrogen oxides. Filters with active charcoal are also more resistant to dampness, which in turn extends their useful life.

The year of 2012 is the year when we have developed an advanced, not yet applied in the production of the charcoal filters, technology of rotational folding.
The folding module is the most important part of the production line. The line is characterised with unique design, based on the right shape and the extrusion of the folding strip to the surface of the rollers. Our engineers have come up with the idea of the folding module being a fully universal part as regards production. Thanks to the appropriate construction the machine can generate a fold of the length ranging from 16 to 36 mm. Thanks to that we have been able to efficiently minimize the refitting of the line and thus to obtain a more efficient folding line.
The introduction of the new technology of rotational folding of the flimsy, charcoal fabric has increased the efficiency of the entire process over four times in comparison to the knife folding technology used so far, furthermore, the quality parameters of the produced filter inserts have improved (more precise folding and fold crest lines, increased size stability)..
In the nearest future WIX-FILTRON engineers intend to provide the line with an automatic, transverse cutting saw. This shall allow us to reach the maximum speed of folding - today it is 320 folds/minute while the target speed is even up to 600 folds/minute.
All the above described modernisations have allowed us to maintain a highly efficient, simple to operate, modern rotational folding line being part of the anti-dust, charcoal filters production process. Thanks to that our customers can be sure that the filters offered by WIX-FILTRON are now of even more superior quality than before and that these filters guarantee efficient operation of the ventilation or air-conditioning system over their entire useful life.
